Why You Should Really Do Recruitment

Standard

It’s that time of year again, folks.

Recruitment.

A time in your college life where you can chose to join the world of the Greeks high up on Mount Olympus or be left with the peons down in the the lowly realm.

That is clearly satire so to all the people who are getting into a huff over that, calm down please.

This is a time that all “potential new members” will be told countless times all the upsides to rushing. Countless people spitting in your face “it’s the best decision I ever made” “you can make some of your best friends” “it’s a great opportunity”. Yes, we all understand that much. We’ve seen Legally Blonde and, let’s be honest, everyone’s wanted to live just a little bit of that life at some point.

The “everyone” in that sentence is clearly empirical, so don’t go tearing apart my writing. I’m being witty, so understand the tone please.

But the best reason to do Greek recruitment I can think of is this:

Why the hell not?

Seriously. We are young and strong and passionate. This is the time in our lives to try absolutely everything. I’m not saying you have to join, no that you can decide after the process. I am saying just to go for it. What is holding you back? What do you actually have to lose?

Nothing.

This is the time in our lives where we are growing and changing and becoming the people that we want to be. The people we are supposed to be. And what if this is an amazing opportunity for change and growth and your just going to pass it up because your nervous? Or you feel judged? Your friends aren’t doing it?

Well tell them the same thing I’m telling you.

Just do it. Why the hell not?

It could be amazing. I’m not saying it’s guaranteed to be amazing. But just the chance that it could be the best change, seems like reason enough.

Why the hell not?

On The Road (Air)

Standard

I got my palm read by a talkative Indian man and just spent 12 dollars on a sandwich.

My name is Brenna Foley and I’m not a fan of JFK Airport.

I also just paid 7 bucks to get wifi in this god forsaken airport. Joy.

Anyway. I’m in New York, pretty much ready to be in Italy. I spent the last 3 hours on a tiny little plane that I was convinced would just get blown out of the air.

I sat next to this Indian man who was very talkative. And he read my palm. He said that I have a strong lifeline and that I should follow my dreams because I will have success. Score! Anyway, I took that as a good omen for the trip. He also told me to be careful in Italy. He specifically said that I should avoid men that select me. If I select, it’s all good, but they select? No good.

Alright, I’ll tuck that little nugget in my back pocket.

Anyway. I’m eating my 12 dollar sandwich and feeling very gross and clammy. Hopefully, this next flight goes quickly.

On a side note: The woman next to me just opened her carryon bag to reveal that it is half-full of tampons. Way to be prepared, lady.

Another side note: Without my computers autocorrect I would’ve spend this whole post spelling sandwHich with and “H”. Lord.

Netflix: A Poem

Standard

Now it’s time to write an ode

As I slowly shift to summer mode

The hours I’m way too scared to count

That I’ve spent on my Netflix account

It’s made it easy; waste the day

Your brain sucked in when you press play

And all these movies just so fun

I know I’m not the only one

Who likes to watch bad horror flicks

And Barbie movies just for kicks

Or three show seasons in one day

Your social life in disarray

Well, who need friends with Doctor Who

Or Weeds, Mad Men, The Office too

Your life outside came to a close

When they added the Cartoon Network shows

But soon you’ll see it’s not a waste

When lonely fate you have embraced

So damn you Netflix, now I’m a bore

Oh well, I guess I’ll watch some more
